Interactive Fiction on Steam
Text-based interactive fiction is still a rarity on Steam. Earlier this year, Choice of Games launched the first ever text-only games for Steam, the "Heroes Rise" trilogy. With the launch of "Mecha Ace," there are still only six text-only games on Valve's platform, including five games from Choice of Games, plus Zoe Quinn's "Depression Quest."
"Our goal is to release our entire catalog of interactive novels on Steam," said Dan Fabulich, co-founder of Choice of Games. "Based on the performance of 'Heroes Rise,' Valve has allowed us to ship 'Choice of the Deathless,' 'Thieves' Gambit: Curse of the Black Cat,' and 'Mecha Ace.' We'll need to continue to deliver outstanding results to prove that interactive fiction can be successful on Steam."
About Mecha Ace
Step into the cockpit of a giant robot in an interstellar civil war! Customize your mecha to duel against enemy pilots with "monosaber" plasma swords. Find glory, disgrace, and even love.
"Mecha Ace" is a thrilling interactive sci-fi novel by Paul Wang, where your choices control the story. The game is entirely text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
For example, after bluffing an Imperial reconaissance unit into retreating, what will you do?
A) Let them go. Only savages kill unarmed men and women.
B) Let them go. It'll be easier to convince other Imperials to surrender if we do.
C) These people know too much. Take them out.
D) We don't need an excuse to kill impie scum. Light'em up!
Who will you be, pilot? Hero, villain, or renegade? Will you lead a unit of elite pilots to victory? Defeat your enemies with skill, cunning, determination, or heavy firepower? Fight for glory, for power, or for an enduring peace?

About the Author
Paul Wang is an independent game developer and writer of interactive fiction currently living in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. He is the author of Sabres of Infinity, a ChoiceScript game published under the Choice of Games "Hosted Games" label; he's the first author to graduate from the "Hosted Games" label to the "Choice of Games" label. He is currently completing his degree in History at Simon Fraser University.
"My goal with Mecha Ace was to create a story that would appeal to fans of Japanese mecha anime, western science fiction, as well as readers entirely new to both genres," said Paul Wang, author of "Mecha Ace." "Taking stylistic and story-telling cues from sources like "Mobile Suit Gundam", "Starship Troopers" and "Top Gun", Mecha Ace is not just about awesome giant robots fighting it out in alien skies. It is not just a story about the human costs of war. It is not just a story about loyalty, or sacrifice, or love, or leadership. It is all of these things, and more."
